The NCAA men’s basketball tournament is called March Madness for a reason. It’s a wild high-profile competition that features the top collegiate players competing for a Division I title. The tournament also gives us a taste of the next crop of NBA superstars.
In this article, I cover the top March Madness players to watch in 2023. I highlight some of the most gifted prospects in college that have the potential to bring their talents to the NBA soon.

Oscar Tshiebwe

Oscar Tshiebwe is one of the best NBA prospects in March Madness 2023. His impact on the court for Kentucky can’t be understated. The center was the Naismith College Player of the Year last season, averaging 17.4 points and 15.1 rebounds per game.
Tshiebwe has been a powerhouse in college basketball over the past two seasons with his eye-popping numbers. In 2021-22, he had 25 double-doubles and five games with over 20 rebounds. This includes 28 rebounds in a game against Western Kentucky.
The Wildcats have been struggling in 2022-23. That’s largely because Tshiebwe doesn’t have a ton of talent surrounding him. Many believe he should’ve entered the NBA Draft last summer, but you will be able to watch him at this year’s March Madness.
Nick Smith Jr.

- Position: Point Guard
Nick Smith Jr. is going to be one of the most electrifying players to watch in March Madness 2023. He always displays ultra-competitiveness on the court. The point guard’s also efficient at scoring and knows how to create opportunities for his teammates.
What also makes Smith Jr. an interesting prospect is that he brings the same level of energy on offense and defense. His biggest issue is the lack of experience. He’s only appeared in a handful of games this season, as he’s struggled to remain healthy.
Smith Jr. is a force of nature when he’s at his best and on the court. He’s one of the more dynamic two-way players in college right now, and his aggressiveness will bode well for the NBA. Arkansas is also infinitely better whenever he’s playing, so watch out for the point guard.
Brandon Miller
- Age: 20
- School: Alabama
- Position: Small Forward
Brandon Miller is another one of those intriguing NBA prospects to watch in March Madness this season. His size and athleticism are both ideal for players at the next level. The only major concerns are his production and sense of urgency on the court.
While averaging 19 points per game, Miller has led Alabama to an impressive season. He’s one of those players piecing it all together at the right time. He’s also incredibly dynamic, versatile and can make shots from anywhere on the court.
Anthony Black
- Age: 19
- School: Arkansas
- Position: Shooting Guard
I love Anthony Black as an NBA prospect competing in March Madness. He’s currently making a case for SEC Freshman of the Year by averaging 14.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. His NBA stock has also been on the rise since his breakout performance against Louisville.
After two consecutive games in which he scored 26 points, Black has now leaped ahead of his peers. He has all the attributes of an NBA player in terms of his size, athleticism, and presence on the court. He’s also gotten a lot better as a passer/facilitator.
Shooting has never been Black’s strength, but he’s improving in this area too. His biggest drawback, however, is that he averages 3.2 turnovers per game. This will make NBA teams hesitant to draft him, even though his ceiling is extremely high.
Kel’el Ware
- Age: 18
- School: Oregon
- Position: Center
I have to say that Kel’el Ware is one of my favorite March Madness 2023 players to watch. The 18-year-old big man is one of those hidden gems with undeniable talent. The only thing that’s holding him back is his consistency and production on the court.
Ware has the type of upside that many NBA teams relish. His size, strength, fluidity, and vision make him worthy of a first-round selection. He’s also really good at protecting the rim and has the potential to become a major offensive weapon.
Does Oregon underutilize Ware? I think that’s a fair question to ask, given his lack of production. His ability to stretch the floor and create offensive opportunities is something that would benefit most college teams. I expect him to be more of an impact player during March Madness.
Keyonte George
- Age: 19
- School: Baylor
- Position: Shooting Guard
A lot of people consider Keyonte George to be one of the top players to watch in March Madness this year. He’s someone who’s always been good at scoring and can knock down shots from anywhere. His defensive playmaking, however, could use some work.
George needs to improve other areas of his game if he expects to make an NBA team. His defense has a way to go, but overall, he’s also a pretty magical player, bringing a ton of energy and galvanizing his teammates.
In terms of his overall efficiency, George needs to improve. He’s only shooting around 39% from the field, which simply isn’t going to cut it in the NBA. He’ll have to focus on improving his accuracy to be an elite scorer.
Zach Edey
- Age: 20
- School: Purdue
- Position: Center
Zach Edey is perhaps the tallest player in college basketball and playing for the best overall team. He’s also a top NBA prospect competing in March Madness and vying for a Division I title. He’s averaging 22.4 points and 13.2 rebounds per game as a junior.
Edey is also one of the more improved players from last season. His production on the court has shot up big time – he’s scoring more points and taking advantage of his opportunities. His rapid improvement should also impress a few NBA teams.
You can’t deny that Edey looks like an entirely different player this season. He’s a lot better defensively, limiting his fouls to just 2.1 per 40 minutes. His footwork looks greatly improved, and he’s a much better decision-maker.
Jarace Walker
- Age: 19
- School: Houston
- Position: Small Forward
The Cougars are an extremely dynamic team, and that’s because of Jarace Walker. The freshman phenom took a huge risk by choosing Houston over Alabama and Auburn, and it’s paid off big time. He’s already improved immensely since his high school days.
Walker is one of those players who can almost do it all. His shot selection is amazing, he’s good at rebounding, and he’s been more productive than anticipated. Is he a perfect prospect? No – far from it. However, his game has taken a huge leap forward this season.
