Ironman World Championship 2022 Preview and Predictions

Iron man, Race, Champion, World Champion, Finish Line

Welcome to my Ironman World Championship preview. Finally, things are back to normal after the global health crisis. After the suspended 2021 race took place in Utah earlier this year, it’s time for the main event to return to Hawaii.

I give you some facts, stats, and advice for Ironman betting this year. Let’s begin by looking at the key info about the race and go from there.

2022 Ironman World Championship Key Info

Here’s the key information you need to know about the 2022 Ironman World Championship.

After the pandemic caused the world’s premier Ironman contest to be canceled in 2020 and 2021, the North American Championship returned to St. George, Utah, earlier in 2022, kicking things back off. Now, with things basically back to normal, the biggest triathlon will finally take place where it traditionally belongs, allowing you to bet on the Ironman World Championship.Men’s 2022 Ironman World Championship Lineup and PredictionWhile thousands of athletes will participate in the 2022 Ironman World Championship, there are a few who stand front and center as favorites to win. When betting on the Ironman World Championship, consider the odds on the following athletes.Note: My would-be favorite, Jan Frodeno, has withdrawn due to injury. Therefore, these are my current three top contenders to win the race.Patrick LangeGerman Patrick Lange has won the Ironman World Championship twice before: in 2017 and 2018. He broke the course record both times with finishes of 8:01:40 and 7:52:39, respectively.Important:

The 36-year-old is particularly strong on the bike and in the run. He’s also a successful duathlete, for this reason, having won major competitions in this discipline between 2010-2012.

Lange will be one to watch in this race. I’d put him as the favorite to win this year.Sebastian KienleKienle won the Ironman World Championship back in 2014, and he’s finished runner-up and third place several times since. He’s a strong all-around contender and is in with a chance of winning any given race. The 38-year-old has been involved in the sport since he was 8 and ran his first race at 12. Most of his wins have come at middle and long distances, and he’s known to be stronger on land than in the water. When Kienle won the Ironman World Championship in 2014, he finished with a time of 8:14:18. To win outright, he will need to finish in under eight hours, so I fancy him for second or third place and will be betting accordingly.Kristian BlummenfeltNorwegian Kristian Blumenfelt is a rising star. The 28-year-old has an impressive record already, including Olympic and World Championship gold medals. After winning Olympic and World Triathlon Championship Series gold medals in 2021, Blummenfelt won the rescheduled Ironman World Championship in Utah earlier this year. He’s the current reigning champ and broke the Ironman record earlier this year.I’m probably going to place a small wager on Blummenfelt because he could well come out all guns blazing and win again. It’s still early in his career, but he’s already proven he can do I.Women’s 2022 Ironman World Championship LineupLet’s not forget the women’s race. It’s also highly competitive, and there’s lots of opportunity to make real money wagers on it.Daniela RyfThe 38-year-old Swiss triathlete is my favorite to win this race. She has utterly dominated the field in recent years, taking home gold medals in the Ironman World
Championship in every race bar one since 2015.There’s no doubt about it, Ryf is one of the strongest long-distance triathletes in the sport’s history. She has consistently improved her winning time over the years, going from just under nine hours when she first won to about 8.5 hours these days.Ryf is the one to beat in this contest. However, the next athlete you’re going to read about has proven she can come out top, too.Anne HaugHaug is a 39-year-old German triathlete with a long history of medals and awards. She won the Ironman World Championship in 2019 and has represented her country in two Olympic games. In 2019, her winning time was 8:40:10. She’s known to be particularly strong in the water, having finished with a top 10 time (54:09) during the 2019 race.Lucy Charles-BarclayLucky-Charles Barclay is a 29-year-old British athlete. She’s one of the younger athletes in the lineup and has never won the Ironman World Championship, but she has finished second in three out of the last four races.Charles-Barclay finished her 2018 race in 8:36:32, a better time than Haug won with in 2019. This proves that, on a good day, she can come out on top. However, she’ll struggle to beat my favorite (Ryf), and so I fancy her once again for a second-place finish.Ironman World Championship Betting TipsI want to provide some information on how to make your own Ironman World Championship predictions. These betting tips will be useful in making informed decisions about who might win and other prop bets you can make.Look at Previous Race StatsLooking at previous race stats can tell you much about what to bet on and what not to. For example, I can see that almost every single year, the winning time is faster than in previous years and that for the past three years in a row, it has been under eight hours in the men’s event.Clearly, this is useful information when betting on outcomes like what the winner’s finishing time will be. Mine the data for other useful stats to help you make informed bets.Don’t Overlook New ContestantsWhile last year’s winner, Kristian Blumenfelt, was by no means new to the world of triathlon, it was the first time he raced the full distance, and he beat lots of more experienced athletes. This makes my point nicely: look at some of the other athletes that aren’t yet in the spotlight and consider whether small bets on them might be worth it. You never know who’s going to pop up and surprise everyone.Seek Value in the MarketsIt’s not possible to say yet, as the Ironman World Championship betting odds aren’t live, but it’s often possible to find value bets when the bookies have mispriced something. For Example

You could often get odds of +900 for someone who consistently finished second and third in many races (American Tim O’Donnell is one example). Compare that to an athlete who has finished first once and is priced at +400

The better value often is in the longer odds since that guy has a solid chance of winning. Read our full guide to value betting for more on that.Take Advantage of Free BetsOnline betting sites want to win you over as a player, so they often offer free bets and other incentives to sign you up. Take full advantage of these, and remember that it’s possible to claim them at multiple sites, allowing you to place risk-free wagers on multiple outcomes.Yes, you’ll have to wager the free bets and what you win before you can withdraw it, but that’s doable with a little luck.Where to Bet on the 2022 Ironman World Championship? There are no Ironman World Championship odds 2022 available right now. I’m sure they’ll go live soon since this is a hugely popular event and people love to bet on athletics, so expect the following sportsbooks to cover the event.
